Procedure
The dish Soap Method
Add a small drops of liquid dish detergent in a bowl of warm water. Mix it gently. For better results, you can use either sodium-free seltzer water or club sod, the carbonation cast off soil and cleans out debris
Soak in the gold jewelry in the solution for about 15 minutes.
Using a soft bristle toothbrush, scrub each piece of jewelry. Do not use a stiff bristle toothbrush, because it can scratch the surface of your jewelry. There are special brushes designed for this purpose, an eyebrow brush will also work.
Use a warm water in rinsing your jewelry.
Use a soft cloth and pat dry your jewelry.
Ammonia Method
Don’t use these method often, though it's very effective, doing it can damage your gold. (Ammonia can also darken platinum.)
These method is 1:6, mix one part of ammonia to six parts of water.
Using a strainer soak the jewelry in the mixture for not more than one minute.
Under running water rinse the jewelry thoroughly.
By using a soft polishing cloth dry the jewelry.
For Jewelry with Gemstones
Do not submerge in water pieces of jewelry with gemstones that are glued into the setting.
Dabbed a piece of cloth into a dish soap solution wipe the jewelry.
Damp a piece of cloth in plain water and use it to rinse the jewelry.

Using an old toothbrush and a toothpaste gently scrub it around to cast off dirt.
Under Running water rinse it thoroughly.
Boil in Water Method
Under boiling water you can get off oil, grease or wax from your jewelry.
Tips
- You can take off grease from gold jewelry by dipping it into alcohol (not applicable if gemstones are glued in).
- Always remember that you can always take your jewelry to a professional.
- Each piece of your jewelry should be kept in, in its own cloth bag. Proper storage of your gold avoids scratches.
Warning
- To avoid permanent discoloration of your jewelry, don't use bleach or any kind of chlorine.
- Check the prongs of your rings to make sure that there are no damage to prevent the diamonds or gemstones from falling out.
